Auto Insurance: More Ways To Save Money

By Ara Rubyan

What with the price of gas going up and down like a roller coaster -- and in fact is it's mostly going up -- you need to save money on your automobile expenses any way, you can.

Here's some additional ways to save money every year by cutting your auto insurance costs.

Shop Online

I think I've said it before, but you can go online and quickly compare the rates being offered by auto insurance companies.  It is worth it to make the effort because you can save substantial amounts of money.  If you have a clean driving can record statistics show that the average online auto insurance shopper will pay anywhere from a third to almost out one half less than someone who doesn't shop around.

Chill Out

According to the National Foundation for Highway and Traffic Safety, angry aggressive drivers cause 90% of all accidents.  In turn, they pay a third to three quarters more in car insurance premiums.  So whether you're an aggressive driver or not, you can save money by driving safely.

Take A Class

And even if you have some points on your record, sometimes you can get a discount by taking a defensive driving course.  These courses are sponsored by your insurance company.  Call your local community college and see if they offer these courses.

Drive A Boring Car

Another way to get a discount on your auto insurance is drive a car that doesn't get stolen a lot.  Car insurance companies will charge you a higher rate if you drive a really hot car that people like to steal.  So if you drive a Civic or an Accord that's good.  If you drive a Lamborghini or a Porsche, that's not so good.  Of course, if you can afford a Porsche, you can afford the auto insurance, right?

Join A Club

And lastly, another way to qualify for discounts on your auto insurance is by joining a group like AAA or AARP.

So that's a few different ways you can save on your auto insurance.  Make sure you read some of the other articles on this website, because I've got lots of other ways that you can pocket the money that you're currently paying for your car insurance.
